Lawrenceville DUI Attorneys
Driving under the influence is a serious offense.
If you have been arrested for DUI in Lawrenceville, you need to speak with one of our attorneys at the Law Offices of Webb, Willis, and Kohn to help you through the legal process.
If this is your first DUI offense, you can expect to pay hefty fines. These fines can range from $300 to $1,000, as well as any additional surcharges (typically 15-25 %.)
You may also have to spend time in jail. The jail sentence can range anywhere from 10 days to 12 months. However, this time can be suspended or probated, depending on the circumstances surrounding your case.
Losing your license is another very real concern. Did you know that your license can be suspended even before you go to court? After you are arrested, the officer must report if your blood alcohol content (BAC) level is over .08, or if you refused to take a chemical test. If you do not request an administrative hearing within 10 days of being arrested for DUI, you will automatically lose your license on the 31st day after your arrest.
Community service is another part of the sentencing. For people over the age of 21, you are required to perform 40 hours of community service if this is your first offense.
However, if you have been convicted of a DUI in the past, your penalties will be even harsher.
The fines are steeper, starting at $1,000 and going up to $5,000. This does not even include the statutory surcharges.
The time spent in jail may be longer too. Your sentencing can range from 90 days to 12 months. All but three of these days can be suspended or probated.
You will definitely lose your license. The license suspension will last three years. The first year is what is known as a “hard suspension.” This means that you can not drive at all, or obtain a limited driving permit.
You will also be required to complete 30 days of community service.
If this is your second or third offense, you will have to get your photo, name, address and time of arrest published in your local newspaper. You also have to pay for it to be printed. This typically costs $25.
